Surprising echo to the reflection about the link between the Virtue of Justice and Ecology.

The canon of Latran – … and very anticlerical French President- François Hollande officially sent a certain Nicolas (!) to Pope Francis, in order to prepare the success of the meeting about climate changes in Paris, in 2015.

The former TV presenter, who also tried to be the ecologist candidate to the French presidential election, Nicolas Hulot, arrived in Rome, on Thursday 21 of November. This is what he declared.

“This pope is called from the name of the precursor of Ecology and he can urge the Chiefs of State to involve themselves before the meeting in Paris”. “ I came to the Vatican to seek his help in unlocking multilateral relationship in order to urge also citizens to make useful Paris 2015 meeting”. “John Paul II and Benedict XVI prepared the topic. But, although they wrote a lot about it, all that was not always very audible. The message should be more percussive. Pope Francis’ voice is powerful. We need a voice that overcome hubbub.”

“The Catholic Church can play a great part. Always it has been in the vanguard to care about misery, inequality, suffering. The ecological crisis mixes all vulnerabilities. It concerns all the issues about solidarity that matters for it. It must express itself more powerfully”. “We are in a crossroads and we cannot enter it with only political, economical or technical approaches. We also need a vertical approach: this is a matter of sense”. “Spiritual authorities and Churches can help to give again a sense to progress. We should define together aims and means.”

Nicolas Hulot hopes that “ the pope dedicate a travel to climate change in order to put Humankind in front of its responsibilities: it must see this reality that already strikes thousands of victims every year and creates millions of migrants.” The unconscious selfishness that leads to natural resources wasting and environment destruction by pollution must be condemned and faced by all those who contemplate universe as a proof of God’s existence; they should consider intolerable wasting the Creation.” The Vatican is the first on a long list of contacts that Nicolas Hulot is to get with other religions: the orthodox patriarch Bartholomeus, Muslim leaders, … He will not meet the Pope but several high leaders of the Catholic Church.
